Roomi's mission is to provide a safe and secure platform for you to find roommates, therefore, we take measures to ensure all listings and accounts created in Roomi is valid and transparent. Unfortunately, dishonest people sometimes try to use Roomi to scam and defraud others.

Most scams attempts involve one or more of the following:

  • They want to take the conversation to email or text right away.

  • They will tell you that the property manager will contact you after giving them your personal information.

  • Email or text from someone that’s not living in your area.

  • Poor grammar/spelling.

  • Want you to transfer money via Western Union, Money Gram, cashier's check, money order, or PayPal without sending a lease or showing you a room.

  • Inability/refusal to meet face-to-face to show the room. The scammer may pretend to be unable to speak by phone (most scammers prefer to operate by text/email).
